PROBABILISTIC FIXED LIFETIME INVENTORY MODEL FOR CONTINUOUS DEMAND RATE.
ENAGBONMA, O. AND OBAHIAGBON, K.O.
ABSTRACT
This paper deals with the development of expected cost model in a fixed lifetime inventory system. In this type of inventory, items in stock are expected to be used before the expiring date. The system consists of an age-wise profile of items (state space). The size of the space is directly proportional to the life of the items. Consequently, the inventory management is faced with lots of challenges otherwise item will be outdated, additional cost such as holding cost, shortage cost and ordering cost will be incurred. Optimal..

A LEAST ABSOLUTE DEVIATION TUNING METHOD TO REDUCE SIGNAL COVERAGE LOSS PREDICTION ERROR IN ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE PROPAGATION CHANNEL.
ISABONA, J.AND ENAGBONMA, O.
ABSTRACT
The demand for increased mobile phone subscribers require an efficient radio network planning that involves an accurate prediction of propagation loss. Although various empirical loss models are in use, they are suitable for a particular environment or a specific cell radius. The tuning of a model is a process in which the parameters of the theoretical propagation model are adjusted with the help of measured values obtained from the experimental data. In this process, several model parameters can be changed.
The objective of tuning is to obtain the values of the…

THE EFFECTS OF GASTROINTESTINAL HELMINTH PARASITES INFECTION ON THE CONDITION FACTORS OF FISHES FROM WARRI RIVER SOUTHERN NIGERIA.
WOGU, M.D. AND WOGU, M.N.
ABSTRACT
This study presents the effects of gastrointestinal helminth parasites infection on the condition factor (K) of fishes caught from Warri river, over a period 12 months (June, 2010 to May, 2011). Of 800 fishes (belonging to 56 fresh and brackishwater species) examined during the study, 222 (27.5%) were infected with gastrointestinal helminth parasites belonging to three phyla, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda and Acantocephala. The K values of fishes infected with gastrointestinal helminth parasites ranged from 0.03 to…

MOLECULAR CHARACTERISATION AND VEROTOXIGENIC POTENTIALS OF ENTEROHAEMORRHAGIC Escherichia coli 0157:H7 ISOLATED FROM FERMENTED FRESH COW MILK (Nunu) SOLD IN SELECTED CITIES IN
NIGERIA.
ENABULELE, S.A.,EGHAFONA, N.O. AND DAHIRU, M.
ABSTRACT
A total of 800 “Nunu” (a fermented fresh milk product) made up of 200 samples each from four major Nigerian cities, namely Abuja, Benin City, Lagos and Onitsha were investigated for the presence and prevalence rate of Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli 0157:H7, using standard microbiological procedures on Sorbitol-MacConkey agar supplanted with cefixime and potassium tellurite (CT-SMCA). All non sorbitol fermenting isolates which were colourless on CT-SMCA, suspected to be Escherichia coli 0157:H7 were characterised serologically using Oxoid Latex agglutination kit and molecularly with PCR techniques. Tissue culture assay to determine the verotoxigenic potentials of all…

ARTHROPOD PROFILE ON POISONED AND PRESERVED CARRIONS.
EKRAKENE, T. AND ILOBA, B.N.
ABSTRACT
Arthropod invasion on poisoned and embalmed carrions of the African giant rat (Crycetomys gambianus) killed from phostoxin poison was monitored for a period of 30 days (November 13th-December 23rd 2009) with a view to establishing arthropod profile. A total of 18 species (distributed in 13 families, 6 orders and 2 classes of the phylum Arthropoda) were collected and identified. Occurrence of these species was independent of the killing and embalming agent. Species from the order Diptera were most
predominant, followed by the Coleoptera and the Hymenoptera. Members …

PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS, PROXIMATE AND MINERAL COMPOSITION AND IN VITRO ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES IN Telfairia occidentalis AQUEOUS LEAF EXTRACT.
USUNOBUN, U. AND EGHAREBVA, E.
ABSTRACT
The present study sought to undertake the phytochemical analysis (using standard methods of analysis), proximate and mineral composition as well as in vitro antioxidantproperties (involving inhibition of DPPH and reducing power ability) of aqueous leaf extract of Telfairia occidentalis consumed in Ekpoma, Edo state, Nigeria. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed that the leaf of T. occidentalis contains
flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids and phenolics. Quantitative analysis showed that phenol, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids and saponins in percentage were 0.19±0.12, 7.12±0.50, 0.12±0.08, 1.03±0.24 and 7.01±0.30 respectively. Result on proximate analysis showed 89.01% dry matter, 10.99% moisture content, 21.14% crude protein…

WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF OSSE RIVER, EDO STATE, NIGERIA, USING PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PARAMETERS.
EKHATOR, O. OPUTE, F.I., AKOMA, O.C.
AND MENSAH, J.K.
ABSTRACT
This paper reports a sixteen month investigation of the pattern of variation of the physico-chemical parameters of Osse River was carried out from January 2003 to April 2004.Water samples for physical and chemical analysis were collected into a 250ml container and analyzed using standard methods. Results obtained showed marked seasonal fluctuations in the measured parameters with the rainy season months
recording higher values than the dry season months. All parameters studied where significantly different among the stations investigated (P<0.05) except pH. There was…
